Albion Quartet: Dvořák in America

Sobre el espectáculo

Delight in the Czech composer's depiction of the New World in miniature form. The renowned British Albion Quartet play Dvořák's 'American' Quartet, replete with the sounds of a new‐disovered landscape and its enchantments.

From native birdsong to Negro Spirituals and Indian chants, with perhaps even a hint of the burgeoning railroad, Dvořák's visit to Iowa produced one of the most popular quartets in the repertoire. Schubert's 'Rosamunde' Quartet — so called because of a brief similarity to Schubert's incidental music for the eponymous play — often stands in the shadow of 'Death and the Maiden', composed around the same time. Nonetheless, the quartet has its own charms, frequently quoting from Schubert's most popular songs, including Gretchen am Spinnrade.
