The king of Bactria is dead and Abramane usurped the throne. In order to legitimize his position he wishes to marry the king's daughter Amélite. She, however, is in love with Zoroastre. Together with Erinice, who also loves Zoroastre, Abramane conspires against the two lovers and begins a battle between Heaven and Hell.
The battle between good and evil is at the center of Louis Cahusac's libretto. Long before Nietzsche's famous work, the story of the shaman Zarathustra fascinated poets and thinkers alike.
