Yefim Bronfman at Carnegie Hall

About the Event

Indulge in an evening of exceptional pianism as Yefim Bronfman plays the annual Isaac Stern Memorial Concert. Humor and pathos combine in music by Schumann, Bartók, Debussy, and Stravinsky.

Debussy's Suite bergamasque, with its juxtaposition of the sensual and naive, obscures dark undercurrents and raw humor. Stravinsky's sad clown Pétrouchka is the embodiment of this study in opposites, while Schumann experienced all these emotions and more in the writing of his Humoreske. Bartók completes the program with his usual vigor, drawing on rhythmic influences from far flung cultures, including Arabia, North Africa, and Romania in his Suite, Op. 14.
