Wiener Philharmoniker, Franz Welser‐Möst: Brahms

About the Event

The Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Franz Welser‐Möst, will play two works by Johannes Brahms, the Hanseatic with a great love for Vienna.

The Double Concerto for Violin and Violoncello with concertmaster Volkhard Steude and solo cellist Peter Somodari as soloists was not written by Brahms in the Danube metropolis. He composed the work, which alternates between tragedy and idyll, in 1887 in the Swiss summer resort. His second symphony, ten years older, also arouses rural associations — he wrote it on holiday at Wörthersee.
