War Requiem: English National Opera

About the Event

Mark the centenary of the end of World War One with the massed voices of English National Opera. Martyn Brabbins conducts Benjamin Britten's great cry against man's inhumanity to man at London's Coliseum.

Daniel Kramer's staging of Britten's immense work features three stellar soloists — soprano Emma Bell, tenor David Butt Philip and baritone Roderick Williams — each renowned for their ability to get inside the texts of the works they sing. The pacifist poetry of Wilfrid Owen fused with the latin ritual of a Requiem Mass, and the designs of Turner Prize winner, Wolfgang Tillmans, combine to powerful and moving effect.
