Vogler Quartet: Haydn, Bartók, Brahms

About the Event

Explore the repertoire for string quartet with an ensemble that has retained all its original members for over thirty years.

The final, rhythmically‐bouncy movement of the third of Haydn's Opus 74 quartets has given the work its sobriquet — 'Rider'. Brahms' Second quartet, characteristically intense and complex inclines towards orchestral textures, while Bartók's Quartet No. 1, inspired by unrequited love, soon gets over its early self‐conscious complexity and turns to a cheerier, more folk‐oriented style.
