Vasily Petrenko conducts Britten’s War Requiem at Royal Albert Hall

About the Event

Experience classical music like never before in this astonishing performance of masterworks by Britten at London's remarkable Royal Albert Hall.

Sixty years after its premiere at the consecration of Coventry's new cathedral in 1962, Britten's War Requiem is as powerful as ever, using music and words to explore the futility of war and commemorate its victims.

Britten was a pacifist and conscientious objector during the Second World War, and he used poems written by Wilfred Owen during the First World War and the words of the traditional Latin Mass for the Dead to create his Requiem. Sung here by soloists from Russia, Britain and Germany, as Britten intended for the premiere, the War Requiem is an important reminder of the power of music to transform, transcend and heal.
