Thibaudet, Batiaschvili & Capucon at Pierre Boulez Saal

About the Event

Unlike the string quartet, which has exerted a lasting fascination over composers to this day, the piano trio, highly popular in the Classical and Romantic era, played a much smaller role in the 20th century. A few extraordinary compositions mark the exception to that rule—most notably the works of Maurice Ravel (1914) and Dmitri Shostakovich (whose well‐known second trio of 1944 was preceded by the late‐Romantic student work Op. 8, written in 1923). Three prominent artists and celebrated soloists unite for a concert that offers a chance to rediscover this intimate genre.
