The Tales of Hoffmann: Volksoper Wien

About the Event

Three short stories by E.T.A. Hoffmann were the inspiration for the libretto of Offenbach's beloved opera. Hoffmann himself is the central character, who grows ever more intoxicated while recounting the tales of the great loves of his life.

The line between reality and fantasy becomes blurred, and when Hoffmann's beloved Stella finally arrives, he is not able to recognize her.

Jacques Offenbach was not able to see the unsurpassed success of his work: He died a few months before the world premiere, which took place in Paris on February 10, 1881.

In German and French with German subtitles.
