The Nutcracker: New Year's Eve Concert at L'auditori de Barcelona

About the Event

The Austrians know how to export their most festive and rhythmic music not forgetting elegance and good taste: waltzes, polkas and operettas fill their Christmases with music, and in the hands of Salvador Brotons, ours as well.

The Strauss family was a musical one. Father and sons played the violin and livened up the balls held in Vienna. The father played at dances for the Emperor and the nobility in their palaces, whereas the sons played in cafés for the locals to dance to. Who came out on top? We did, the father and the sons left us with masterpieces which crossed the divide between classical and popular music, with joyful, rhythmical and hopeful works. Brotons has chosen a range of pieces from this repertoire and added Tchaikovsky’s most lively and Christmassy music and also two love songs: the aria “My lips kiss with such passion” and the famous kiss waltz: “I don’t want jewels or pearls, a kiss from you is my only treasure”.
