The Barber of Seville at Oper Leipzig

About the Event

With a plot based on Pierre‐Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais' 1775 play Le Barbier de Séville, Rossini's opera remains one of the most frequently performed comic operas in the repertoire.

Claus Guth's production is both a refreshing study of the interaction between man and animal, and a charming plea in the name of the compulsive and instinctive personality of the species known as Homo sapiens.

This exquisite bel canto opera is based on Beaumarchais' turbulent comedy of the same name. The libretto, full of ingenious absurdities and effervescent situational comedies, inspired Rossini to create a lively musical masterpiece overflowing with refined melodies and lively rhythms.
