About the work

'The Armed Man' by Karl Jenkins was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum and is dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo War. It is based on the lyrics of the Catholic Mass liturgy and the 15th century soldier's song L'homme armé and requires a four‐part mixed choir with two soloists and a symphonic orchestra. The musical portrait of the war threat is interspersed with contemplative moments and ends, despite the horrors of war, on a note of hope for peace.
