The Treasure Hunter (Der Schatzgräber): Deutsche Oper Berlin

About the Event

Discover a dreamscape set in a world full of greed, murder and emotional instability. Indulge in Schreker's opera in this production by Christof Loy at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Franz Schreker's Der Schatzgräber is one of the most important operas of the 1920s. Its premiere in Frankfurt in 1920 was a sensational success, and no fewer than 44 productions followed at various theatres in the next five years alone. But then it became quiet around the popular work. Schreker's operas no longer seemed to correspond to the spirit of the times, and when the National Socialists banned performances, the scores finally disappeared into the drawers. And even after 1945 it took a long time before a Schreker renaissance began.
