Takács Quartet at the Concertgebouw: Haydn, Beethoven & Ravel

About the Event

Join one of the most‐acclaimed quartets of the last half‐century as they explore the Classical string quartet at its apotheosis. Haydn claimed Opus 77, no. 2 as "my most beautiful work", and his pupil, Beethoven, took classical perfection to new heights with his own Quartet Op. 18, no. 2. Several centuries later, the young Ravel, already a master of compositional technique, rejected the impressionism of the French school in favour of innovating within classical forms, producing a work that rapidly became a cornerstone of the quartet repertoire.
