Swedish Cello Sjoegren: Soup Concert

About the Event

Sink into a program of richly romantic music for cello and piano. Alternate solo cellist of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Mikael Sjögren, and pianist Stefan Lindgren play works by three of Sweden's great nineteenth century composers.

Elfrida Andrée and Laura Netzel were two members of an emerging class of female composers whose works and talents attracted significant acclaim in their own time, though many have subsequently faded from public memory. Jakob Adolf Hägg has likewise vanished from the canon over time, but his Schumannesque Sonata for Cello and Piano is a worthwhile reminder of his not inconsiderable gifts.

Menu: Soup of spring legumes, topped with herbed croutons.
