Become a connoisseur of the string repertoire. Perhaps less well‐known than some Quartets with more name recognition, the Merel Quartet is indubitably one of the best string ensembles performing today.

Beethoven's thirteenth string quartet is performed in its original version, complete with the massive Grand Fugue. Beethoven was prompted to substitute a lighter piece for this original final movement, which was judged by his publisher to be unsuccessful, but the Fugue has gained traction as a stand‐alone piece in the intervening years, and is now often reunited to present the quartet as Beethoven originally intended.
