Block flute expert Erik Bosgraaf and Ensemble Cordevento show the intimate side of late seventeenth and early eighteenth century France with a selection of plaintes and tombeaux — the instrumental equivalents of the Baroque lamento — by Marais, d'Anglebert, Hotteterre and contemporaries.
Erik Bosgraaf is among today's most virtuosic and adventurous recorder players. He improvises, plays jazz, works with electronics and seeks collaborations with other artistic disciplines. His repertoire ranges from medieval music to Vivaldi's Four Seasons and contemporary repertoire. For example, Pierre Boulez personally granted him permission to adapt his clarinet composition Dialogue de l'ombre double for recorder. In 2006, Bosgraaf made his international breakthrough with his recording of Jacob van Eyck's Der Fluyten Lust‐hof. As a soloist, he has performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Concerto Köln, among others. In 2011 Bosgraaf was awarded the Dutch Music Prize, the highest state award in the field of music.
Ensemble Cordevento makes music in various guises. The ensemble originated — and still functions — as a trio, consisting of Erik Bosgraaf (recorder), Izhar Elias (guitar) and Alessandro Pianu (harpsichord and organ). The trio focuses mainly on music from the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. In addition, Cordevento is also a small baroque orchestra that plays in a single strength.
