This program spans an acoustic arc from subtle pastel tones to expressive primal forces with works by Sibelius, Saariaho, and Berlioz.

Kaija Saariaho won the 2014 British Composer Award for ‘Circle Map’, which uses electronics to supplement and extend the orchestral sound. Before the Finnish composer’s masterpiece, the concert opens with her celebrated compatriot Jean Sibelius’ ‘Swan of Tuonela’. Yutaka Sado then concludes the evening by exploring the heights and depths of the artistic soul in Berlioz’ beloved ‘Symphonie fantastique’.
