Saturday at the Concertgebouw: Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and de Roo

About the Event

Relax and enjoy a Saturday afternoon of delectable music. Simone Lamsma plays Prokofiev's luscious First Violin Concerto under the baton of Alexander Vedernikov, at the head of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.

Composed at a time of intense official scrutiny and public condemnation, Shostakovich's Fourth Symphony's premiere was delayed nearly thirty years. Despite this, its intricate structure and Mahler‐esque harmonies have been delighting audiences ever since its first performances in 1961. Award winning Dutch composer Matijs de Roo need have no fear of such censure, and the afternoon is marked by the premiere of his 'and the centuries surround me with fire'.
