Robbins, Balanchine, Cherkaoui & Jalet: Paris Opera Ballet
About the Event
The works on this Paris Opera Ballet program at Palais Garnier all take their inspiration from compositions by Maurice Ravel.
George Balanchine's "La Valse" (1951) is danced to Ravel's composition of the same name, a musical portrait of the disintegration of the gaiety of the Viennese waltz after the gruesome suffering of World War I. Jerome Robbins' 1975 choreography takes up a much lighter work, Ravel's jazz‐influenced Piano Concerto in G major. The program ends with the "Boléro", a collaboration of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet, with sets designed by artist Marina Abramović.
