Requiem & Coronation Mass: Mozart at Versailles

About the Event

Wonder anew at Mozart's genius, aptly set within the astonishing beauty of Versailles' Royal Chapel. Jean‐Christophe Spinosi conducts the choir of Barcelona's Palau de la Música, with his own Ensemble Matheus and a youthful group of soloists in two of the master's greatest religious compositions.

Among Mozart's most successful masses, the Coronation Mass is a vast work for massed choir and soloists, its brass fanfares and sumptuous textures guaranteeing its repeat appearance at the crowning of several Austro‐Hungarian Kings and Emperors. In contrast with the Coronation Mass, written at only 23, Mozart left the Requiem unfinished at his death, but this has not stopped it becoming one of the world's favorite sacred musical works.
