Ravenna Festival 2019: Katia and Marielle Labèque

About the Event

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Mozart and Haydn at Ravenna's treasured and world‐renowned Palazzo Mauro de André.

The story of the Labèque sisters is told in The Labèque Way – A Letter to Katia and Marie by Alessandro Baricco, now a documentary film where Félix Cábez narrates how their lives were dedicated to Art and became Art themselves. Growing up in Paris, the daughters of pianist Ada Cecchi started playing as a duo at an early age: celebrity came with their two‐piano recording of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, but their repertoire soon extended from Bach to Glass, who composed a concert for them. Together with Il Giardino Armonico, they now propose Mozart’s best‐known concertos: KV 242, composed in Salzburg in 1776 as a commission by the Lodrons, noble upstarts with a passion for music, and KV 365, which Wolfgang conceived for himself and his beloved sister Nannerl, with whom he performed it in Vienna in 1781.
