Festival Pucciniano 2020: La Boheme

About the Event

Experience opera like never before in this astonishing performance of masterworks by Puccini at Torre del Lago's remarkable Gran Teatro all'aperto.

Giacomo Puccini was a leading Italian opera composer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His early works are characterised by the use of traditional elements of the 19th century romantic Italian opera. Puccini later became one of the leading proponents of the realistic 'verismo' style, a development that informed several of his most famous works. La bohème (1896), Tosca (1900), Madama Butterfly (1904), and Turandot (1924) are popular works regularly performed in the world's most prestigious opera houses.

Puccini’s opera 'La Boheme' is based on Henri Murger's novel 'Scenes de la Vie de Boheme' (‘Scenes of Bohemian Life’). The plot explores the lives and loves of a group of young bohemians living in Paris in the 1840’s. Its triumphant premiere at Turin’s Teatro Regio in 1896 heralded the arrival of a now indispensable part of the Italian operatic repertoire.
