Philippe Jaroussky: Handel Arias at Oslo Opera House

About the Event

Many have compared the countertenor’s falsetto with heavenly music. This is when a tenor’s timbre meets the tonality of a soprano, or anything else. In the case of Philippe Jaroussky, his velvet‐smooth voice intermixes with devilish virtuosity — something he expresses with clarity in Handel’s arias, duets and operatic pieces, which he now brings to Bjørvika.

With his remarkable voice, the Frenchman Phillipe Jaroussky has established himself as one of the foremost countertenors of his generation. He takes the stage in the Main House with soprano Emöke Baráth and the Ensemble Artaserse.

Jaroussky was born in 1978 and has been recognised as one of the best in the world in his vocal discipline for over a decade. Alongside a dozen solo albums, he has performed in numerous recordings of operas and arias, and almost all of these have gone on to win prizes, and to top best seller charts.

His repertoire is unusually broad, despite the greater part of his work being in baroque music. As one of the pre‐eminent musicians within early music, he has worked with ensembles such as Concerto Köln, Les Arts Florissants, Le Concert d’Astrée, L’Arpeggiata and Europa Galante, as well as performing at Théâtre des Champs‐Elysées in Paris, Teatro Real in Madrid and Carnegie Hall in New York – to name but few.
