Inaugurated on July 13th, 1989 – the eve of the 200th anniversary of the Bastille – the Opéra Bastille was conceived by Canadian‐Uruguayan Carlos Ott. Its transparent façades and the use of identical materials for the interior and the exterior make for a wonderful and modern architectural feel.
This enormous but welcoming edifice, which houses the great Opéra National de Paris, boasts 2,723 seats in the largest of its three auditoriums each with a complete view of the stage offering equally excellent acoustics. Intended to open the Paris opera world to a broader audience, this appealing venue beckons Parisians and visitors alike.
