This year's opening concert begins with two beautifully coalescing masterworks by Gustav Mahler and Henry Purcell.

While Mahler's impressive Symphony No. 6 leaves an unparalleled emotional impact, Purcell's 'Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary' elicits the beauty of a lamenting choir. The personal, signature mark of their creators can be distinctly felt in both works.
