St. Paul’s Chapel

New York, USA

St. Paul's Chapel is the oldest surviving church in Manhattan and one of New York's most important landmarks. Located across from the World Trade Center site, it is astonishing that the church wasn't damaged in the attacks of September 11, 2001.

After 9/11 St. Paul's served as a place of rest and refuge for recovery workers who received warm meals, beds and counseling during the relief effort and it became a location to place memorials to the tragic event.

The church was completed in 1766 on land given by Queen Anne of Great Britain. The church is also noteworthy for its historic connection to George Washington, who along with members of the U.S. Congress, worshipped at St. Paul's on Inauguration Day in 1789 and attended services regularly while New York City was the capital.

St. Paul's Chapel is a part of Parish of Trinity Church and next to church services it offers an extensive program of vocal and instrumental music throughout the year.
