The basilica of San Domenico Maggiore, commissioned in 1283 by Charles II of Anjou, was built by incorporating the previous Benedictine church of San Michele Arcangelo in Morfisa. The basilica, along with the adjoining convent complex, has undergone significant changes over time. It stands as one of the most important treasures in the ancient center of Naples. The walls of the basilica and convent hold the memories of distinguished figures, from philosophers like St. Thomas Aquinas, Giordano Bruno, and Tommaso Campanella, to renowned artists such as Tino di Camaino, Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, and many more.
