Mozart Requiem at the Day and Place of its Premiere: St Michael’s Church

About the Event

Hear Mozart's Requiem on day and place exactly where it premiered on 10 December 1791 on the occasion of Mozart's own Death Mass — in St. Michael's Church on 10 December.

The Requiem is one of the best and most moving pieces classical music has to offer. The myths surrounding Mozart's last composition contribute to the incredible appeal of this masterpiece. The Requiem is filled with the strong emotions that come to man in the face of death: Fear, anger, despair, sadness, hope, consolation.

The Addison Singers have set off from West London to Vienna to perform Mozart's Requiem in the version for soloists, choir and piano four hands at St. Michael's Church. Since 1995 the choir has been conducted by David Wordsworth, who studied at Leeds University London and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Since then the choir has given concerts in renowned concert halls in Edinburgh, Paris, Barcelona, Krakow, Milan and in the course of its tours also in Cornwall, France, Italy and Carnegie Hall (New York).

St. Michael's Church is centrally located next to the Hofburg in Vienna's city center on one of the most beautiful squares in the city and it is one of the oldest and most interesting churches in Vienna. It captivates the visitor with its interior as well as with its breathtaking acoustics, which provide an intimate setting for concerts.
