Monteverdi: livres de madrigaux

About the Event

Embark to a musical journey with the Solistes du Collegium Vocale Gent under the baton of Philippe Herreweghe at the beautiful Oratoire du Louvre in Paris.

Monteverdi's Madrigals Books brilliantly illustrate the immense upheaval that took place at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. If the first four books remain dependent on the Renaissance, they suggest bold processes that will flourish in the Fifth Book. Monteverdi then gave a decisive impulse to the Seconda prattica, with a concertant style crowned by the majestic madrigals of the famous Eighth Book (the sublime Madrigals warrighers and lovers). Philippe Herreweghe and the Soloists of Collegium Vocale Gent invite us to witness, literally, the birth of modern music.
