The refined strains of Mozart's Sonata in C Major evokes a sedate 18th Century world, in stark contrast with Schumann's Fantasy in the same key, a passionate musical love letter to his wife, Clara. The Kreisleriana adds to the emotional storm, with its avant‐garde character sketches. Widmann draws on both composers for inspiration, and his Sonata facile is a part of Carnegie Hall's ongoing '125 Commissions' project.
