Mitridate, Re di Ponto: W A Mozart

About the Event

Marvel at the genius of the young Mozart, as the virtuoso arias and complex plot of his first opera seria are brought to the stage by Emmanuelle Haïm and Le Concert d'Astrée. Michael Spyres sings the title role in a production directed by Clément Hervieu‐Léger.

Written at the tender age of 14, during his first visit to Italy, Mozart chose a suitably antique subject for his first serious opera. Centering around one of Rome's greatest adversaries, the plot is full of love, jealousy, battles, and treachery, as Mithridates and his two sons vie for the throne and the love of the same woman.

Overflowing with demanding arias for each of the main characters, the work requires a team of immensely capable singers. From the established stars, Patricia Petibon and Michael Spyres, to the rising talents such as Sabine Devieilhe, this is a cast sure to do justice to this youthful masterpiece.

Sung in Italian, with French surtitles
