About the Event
Young Israeli conductor and pianist Lahav Shani—recently named Zubin Mehta’s successor at the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra—made his double debut at the Pierre Boulez Saal last season with a solo recital and conducting the Staatskapelle Berlin. Now he leads the Boulez Ensemble in the season’s second world premiere: a violin concerto by Syrian‐American composer Kareem Roustom, with Michael Barenboim as the soloist. Two chamber music works by Janácek and Brahms complete the program.

Es war eine sehr gelungene Aufführung in schöner Umgebung mit tollen Künstlern. Die Musik war vielfältig, unterhaltsam mit Überraschungsmomenten und wurde zuweilen sehr humorvoll vorgetragen, was mir sehr gefallen hat. Besonders interessant war es, Künstler und Instrumente aus der Nähe zu erleben. Sehr empfehlenswert. Einzig die Unterstützung beim Plätze finden lies etwas zu wünschen übrig. Auf den ausgedruckten Tickets standen nur die Treppe und die Sitznummern, nicht aber der Aufgang, so dass selbst der Platzanweiser zunächst ratlos war. Da der Saal aber nicht so groß ist, wurden wir trotzdem schnell fündig. Wir kommen wieder!
