Mariss Jansons conducts the Wiener Philharmoniker: Théâtre des Champs‐Elysées

About the Event

In this highly‐anticipated concert, hear the mellifluous sounds of classical music by Schumann and Berlioz at Paris's treasured and world‐renowned Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.
The Théâtre des Champs-Élysées is a theatre named after the Parisian neighbourhood in which it is situated. Designed by French architect August Perret as a suitable venue for 'modern' performances such as contemporary dance, music and opera, its mission stands in contrast to those of more conservative institutions such as the Paris Opera. The theatre was inaugurated in 1913, and quickly became the venue for the most famous riot in the history of classical music, hosting the Ballets Russes and their world premiere of 'The Rite of Spring'. A landmark of early Art Deco architecture in Paris, the use of external decorative elements on plaques of stucco and marble, rectangular forms and straight lines diverged significantly from the more florid norms of the time.
It has been almost twenty years since the Wiener Philharmoniker performer the magnificent Symphonie Fantastique by Berliot here. This is your only chance to witness this magical event, as when heard twenty years ago, it was thought that Symphonie Fantastique has never sounded more dense and powerful. This year, Mariss Jansons takes the lead. It is going to be a wonderful night.
