About the Event

Luxuriate in the luscious harmonies of Mahler's majestic 'Titan' Symphony. Sakari Oramo and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic offer a program filled with labors of love, including Bartók's First Violin Concerto, inspired by the young Hungarian virtuoso Stefi Geyer, and played here by an equally sought‐after violinist, the Norwegian Vilde Frang.

From conception to premiere, Mahler's First Symphony took fifteen years of development. Those years were by no means wasted, and their products — particularly Mahler's great song cycle Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen — can be prominently heard throughout the symphony. Benjamin Staern's Jubilate begins the program — an acclaimed work that clearly shows why this Swedish composer is widely regarded as being one of classical music's greatest hopes.
