l’Incoronazione di Poppea: Monteverdi at Versailles
About the Event
Enter a world of plots and deceptions, treachery and tyranny, royalty and romance. Versailles' Royal Opera — no stranger to any of these — hosts a cast of characters who could teach even these walls a thing or two in Monteverdi's L'Incoronazione di Poppea.
Drawing on classical antiquity for its plot, but innovating with every bar of music, Monteverdi's work has been a repertoire staple for nearly four hundred years. Sébastien d'Hérin conducts this revival of Klaus Michael Grüber's renowned 2010 production for the Festival d'Aix en Provence, with a cast of young singers on the fast track to success — much like Poppea herself!
