Lorenzo Gatto & Julien Libeer: Schubert, Beethoven, Grieg

About the Event

Greet the spring with this Belgian duo as they play Beethoven's 'Spring' Sonata, alongside works by Schubert and Grieg. Lorenzo Gatto and Julien Libeer continue their collaboration on the Beethoven Violin Sonatas, begun in 2012.

If Beethoven's Sonata is explicitly springlike in its harmony and composition, Schubert's charmingly simple 'Sonatina in D' is the product of the spring of the composer's career, written at just 19. In Grieg's Third Sonata, we hear a more metaphorical rebirth, as an emerging thread of Norwegian nationalism bursts into full bloom.
