Le Prophète: Deutsche Oper Berlin

About the Event

Experience Meyerbeer's fascinating perspective on the German revolution of 1848 in a production by renowned director Olivier Py.

Meyerbeer's opera explores the rise and fall of the Protestant Anabaptist sect in Münster in 1535. His main character, the innkeeper and sect leader Jean de Leyde, soon has to discover that they are no better than the despotic Catholic regime they displaced. Meyerbeer's story on religion used to justify the creation of a theocracy remains relevant even today.
