Le Concert Spirituel & Hervé Niquet: Benevolo, Palestrina, Monteverdi, Frescobaldi

About the Event

Forgotten genius Orazio Benevolo was a younger contemporary of Frescobaldi and Monteverdi and, according to some, Palestrina’s only true successor. He composed the Missa Si Deus Pro Nobis for 8 spatially separated choir groups and 15 instruments. A first recording of this mass by the Concert Spirituel was released in 2018. Hervé Niquet made a thorough study of the space and acoustics in the Henri Le Boeuf Hall in order to ensure that every chair is bathed in music. The alternation with other Baroque composers only confirms Benevolo’s mastery.
