La Vestale

La vestale (The Vestal Virgin)is regarded as Spontini's masterpiece. The musical style is influenced by the works of Gluck, Berlioz, Wagner and French Grand Opera. The opera tells the tumulous love story between Licinius and Julia. Returning to Rome after a new victory, Licinius finds out that the woman he is in love with, Julia, has become a priestess of Vesta. The two lovers navigate their way through their feelings and find a solution to be able to stay together even if the high priests are against it.
