Ponchielli combined French and Italian operatic virtues with 'La Gioconda'. Pure emotions emerge from melodies encapsulating the trapped passions of love, hatred, and vengeance against the gorgeous historic images of the French opéra, while accompanied by an extensive ballet and choir.
