La Fille du Régiment: Gran Teatre del Liceu

About the Event

Delight in Donizetti's comic 'Daughter'! Laurent Pelly's charming production, a huge success around the world, comes to the Liceu.

Combining a pointed social critique with humor and a liberal helping of high notes, Donizetti's opera tells the tale of Marie, adopted at birth by an entire regiment. Falling in love with a civilian, to the disapproval of her soldier 'fathers', Marie is swept off to be 'civilised' by a long‐lost noble relative, leaving her beloved and the regiment to fight to get her back. Rising stars Sabina Puértolas and Javier Camarena sing the rebellious Marie and her lover, Tonio (he of the nine high C's), and legendary contralto Ewa Podles is the haughty Marquise of Berkenfield.
