La Bayadère: Paris Opera Ballet

About the Event

The Paris Opera Ballet presents Rudolf Nureyev's magical 'La Bayadère'.

First performed at Saint Petersburg's Grand Theater in 1877, Marius Petipa's seminal work, 'La Bayadère', portrays the impossible love in imagined India between the sacred dancer, Nikiya, and the warrior, Solor. The ballet remained unknown for a long time in the West. But in 1961, the Kirov Ballet performed an excerpt at the Palais Garnier, and the young Rudolf Nureyev stunned the audience with his performance in the 'Kingdom of the Shades'. It was only in 1992, at the end of both his career and his life, that Nureyev succeeded in presenting a new version of the work, at the Palais Garnier, with the help of Petipa's notes and Minkus' score. Ezio Frigerio's sets and Franca Squarciapino's costumes contributed to the success of Rudolf Nureyev's great ballet of which the Paris Opera is the sole legatee.

    以前ローマで見たラ・バヤデールを思い出しながら見ました。やはりパリはすばらしい。ヌレエフの演出が受け継がれているのもうれしい限りです。
