-not in use‐ King Kong: The Broadway Musical

About the Event

Be awed by the power and might of Kong, as he swings onto Broadway! A story that has intrigued generations, and inspired numerous films, television series, and plays finally makes its way to the bright lights of Broadway, in a musical adaptation by Marius de Vries and Eddie Perfect, with additional music by a host of starry names. Tony and Olivier Award‐winning writer Jack Thorne contributes a thrilling script, and acclaimed director Drew McOnie helms this gargantuan production.

As the Great Depression takes hold of New York City, an unscrupulous film‐maker convinces a young actress to join his shoot on the remote and exotic Skull Island. A dramatic and enthralling tale of discovery, of unexpected friendship, and love follows, culminating in the iconic dash through Manhattan, ending on the spire of the Empire State Building. Broadway is no stranger to the immense, but nothing is quite like King Kong – roll up, roll up, and make sure you don’t miss the biggest spectacle in town!

From its spiritual home on New York’s ‘Great White Way’ the Broadway musical has been packing the audiences in for over a century. Legendary writers such as Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jerry Herman, and Stephen Sondheim, or partnerships like the Gershwins , Lerner & Loewe, Rogers & Hammerstein, Kander & Ebb, and Boublil & Schönberg, have created spectacular vehicles for star performers – so‐called ‘triple threats’, who sing, dance, and act with equal talent – and powerful ensembles alike. Running the gamut from spectacular to stark and restrained, musical theatre can be pure frivolous fun, but has a long history of tackling serious social and political issues. Always primed for reinvention, alongside Broadway’s perennial hits and classics, musical theatre has a new vigor in the twenty first century, as live‐action Disney, rap and ‘jukebox’ shows light up new theaters, and attract new audiences. The Show will indeed Go On!

King Kong is the biggest show in town. A drama suitable for all ages.
