About the Event
Consider the choice between love and duty, between being true to oneself, or bowing to convention. Richard Jones' new production of Leoš Janáček's searching opera received rave reviews when it premiered at London's Royal Opera House in 2019, and now comes to the Opera di Roma with an almost identical cast.
American soprano Amanda Majeski sings the title role of the unstable Kát'a, married to an indifferent husband and harassed by his chilly, demanding mother. In love with Boris, she succumbs to the temptation to meet him in her husband's absence. Wracked with guilt, the young woman confesses her transgression, and takes her own life, as her mother‐in‐law holds back her husband's attempts to save her.
Sung in Czech with Italian and English surtitles
