Jacques Offenbach's Fantasio: Opéra Comique Season Opening

About the Event

Do not miss the opening of the new season of the Opéra Comique in Paris. Offenbach's long‐neglected Fantasio comes to the stage of the Théâtre du Châtelet, in a staging by Thomas Jolly, featuring mezzo‐soprano Maria Crebassa and baritone Jean‐Sébastien Bou.

Fantasio is a student who dreams of changing his life and decides to become the new court jester. The story found little success at its premiere in 1872 at the Opéra Comique, and it was soon dropped from the repertoire, to Offenbach's despair. He partly recycled his score in the now world‐famous Tales of Hoffmann, but Fantasio's original score was then partially destroyed by a fire at the Opéra.

Thomas Jolly and the music director Laurent Campellone have reconstructed the score, offering audiences the chance to discover this opéra‐comique, closely based on the play of the same name by French author Alfred de Musset. A musical event not to be missed!

The first production of the Opéra Comique season will be at Théâtre du Châtelet.
