Jacques Offenbach: Bru Zane Palace

About the Event

Duets for cellos

It was his talent as a cellist that led the young Jacques Offenbach to Paris, where he embarked on a career as a virtuoso in the mid‐1930s, after a brief visit to the Conservatory. His brilliant performances in concert served to make him known, but he still had to find other sources of income: a place in the orchestra of the Opéra‐Comique and above all private teaching. The various volumes of the Cours méthodique de duos pour deux violoncelles (op. 49‐54), published between 1839 and 1855, show us the pedagogical principles adopted by the composer: learning through practice, gradual increase in difficulty, dialogue between the student and the professor. Henri Demarquette and Aurélien Pascal will perform three of the most challenging duets in this series.
