Iván Fischer & Sol Gabetta: Konzerthaus Berlin

About the Event

Pay homage to the great Mtislav Rostropovich, as the Konzerthaus begins its tribute to the late Russian cellist and conductor. Sol Gabetta plays Tchaikovsky's 'Roccoco Variations' and Iván Fischer conducts Bernstein, Rodion Shchedrin, and Prokofiev's Fifth Symphony.

Lyrical and melodious, the Fifth Symphony has retained a core place in the symphonic repertoire since its 1944 premiere. Shchedrin's 'Slava, Slava', mimicking in orchestral textures a joyous pealing of bells, was commissioned to celebrate Rostropovich' 70th birthday, while Bernstein's 'Slava! A Political Overture' marked the occasion of Rostropovich' inaugural concerts as chief conductor of America's National Symphony Orchestra.
