Il Primo omicidio: Paris Opera

About the Event

Stage director Romeo Castellucci returns to the Paris Opera with this oratorio, exploring its metaphysical dimension and the role of evil within the divine plan. René Jacobs will conduct this rare Primo omicidio, performed here for the first time at the Paris Opera.

The murder of Abel by his brother Cain is one of those subjects that fascinated a century preoccupied by theological matters. That first murder was to engender all humanity and cast the ambiguous figure of Cain in the role of the father of civilisation. Stage director Romeo Castellucci returns to the Paris Opera with this oratorio, exploring its metaphysical dimension and the role of evil within the divine plan.

Home to the world‐renowned Paris Opera, the Palais Garnier is a stunningly ornate theater completed in 1875 and named after its architect Charles Garnier. The eclectic decorative style typical for late 19th‐century French architecture features an elaborate facade with sculptures and gilt elements.
