About the Event

William Christie conducts his orchestra and choir Les Arts Florissants for this new production of Händel's last oratorio, Jephtha, by director Claus Guth. Ian Bostridge sings the title‐role, with Marie‐Nicole Lemieux as his wife Storgé and Katherine Watson embodying his daughter Iphis.

Jephtha is destined to become the savior of the people of Israel. Leaving for battle, he promises to God that if victorious, he will sacrifice the first creature he meets on his return. Returning with victory, he alas first meets his beloved daughter…
